Welcome to Year 6

Below you will find a class handbook relating to life in Year 6

Class Handbook

KPI's

Here you will find information about our curriculum for the year and more detailed curriculum maps for each half term. The timetable will show you what subjects the children participate in throughout the week.

Pupils should continue to read regularly at home (a minimum of 5 times a week), and parents should sign reading records.

In Year 6, we work very closely as a team to create an exciting broad curriculum. When planning lessons, we use the children’s previous knowledge, experiences and interests to motivate, challenge and engage them. Our English curriculum follows a book-led approach, where children will read high quality texts to inspire creative writing.

Throughout the year, we will be reading texts such as The Hunger Games and The Boy at the Back of the Class. Our mastery curriculum in maths will be exploring different units such as place value, the four operations, geometry and ratio.

In History, children will be looking at The Stone Age and The Ancient Egyptians. In Geography, we will be looking at the causes and effects of natural disasters. Science is enquiry led, focusing on topics such as, electricity, evolution, inheritance and living things.

Pupils will also be set spellings on a weekly basis and will be expected to practise their times tables on TT Rockstars. Spellings will be tested on Wednesdays. Spellings can also be practised using www.spellingshed.com.

We would like all children to regularly practise their times tables using Times tables Rocks Stars https://ttrockstars.com.
We have also included some helpful booklets for parents, so that you can confidently help your children with their homework and there are some links to useful websites, that enable children to practice the new knowledge they acquire.
If you require any further information, please contact Miss Chippendale or Mrs Worrall
