Behaviour & Relationships in School

At St Michael and St Thomas we have exceptionally high expectations for the behaviour of everyone in our community – pupils, staff, parents and visitors.  Our pupils are exceptionally polite and well mannered, something which is commented on regularly by visitors to the school, demonstrating the pride that we all feel at being part of our school community.

High standards of behaviour are expected at all times, and we enjoy rewarding pupils who demonstrate our school rules – Ready, Respectful, Safe – through our school Dojo system, where pupils are able to work towards rewards of Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum certificates.  We also hold annual school awards, where pupils from each class are nominated by staff for the prestigious school awards named after our school mission statement – Learn, Achieve, Love, Believe.

The school follows a graduated response approach to ensure consistency in expectations across the school (see link below).

Exclusions

Local Authority guidance will be followed. Advice from the Exclusion Officers will be sought for any Fixed Term Exclusions.

On occasions pupils whose behaviour warrants exclusion but not a FTE will be internally isolated in school. On return to class the pupil and parents will meet with the Headteacher/Senior Leader and a plan or IBP will be put in place to minimise the need for further exclusions.
