Below you will find a class handbook relating to life in Year 6
Here you will find an overview of our Year 6 curriculum for the year, along with more detailed half-termly curriculum maps. The timetable will show you which subjects the children participate in throughout the week.
We ask that pupils continue to read regularly at home – at least five times a week – and that parents sign reading records to support this.
In Year 6, we work closely together as a team to provide an exciting, broad and balanced curriculum. Our planning takes into account the children’s prior knowledge, experiences and interests to motivate, challenge and engage them.
Our English curriculum follows a book-led approach, using high-quality texts to inspire and develop creative writing. This year we will be reading books such as Once and Skandar and the Unicorn Thief.
In maths, we follow a mastery approach, exploring key areas including place value, the four operations, geometry and ratio.
In history, children will study the Stone Age and the Ancient Egyptians, while in geography they will explore the causes and effects of natural disasters. Science lessons are enquiry-led, covering topics such as electricity, evolution, inheritance and living things.
Pupils will also be given weekly spellings, which will be tested on Wednesdays. To support this, children are encouraged to practise using Spelling Shed. In addition, times tables remain a key focus, and we ask that children regularly use Times Tables Rock Stars to strengthen their recall and fluency.
We have provided a selection of helpful booklets for parents to support homework, alongside links to useful websites that will help children practise and apply new knowledge.
If you require any further information, please contact Mr Albrecht.
