Ofsted Information

Context Information

The school is part of The Three Saints Academy Trust and became an academy in August 2019. The Trust is supported by a CEO who acts as the Executive Principal for all the schools in the Trust. The CEO carries out a quality assurance role across the schools and leads the Headteachers annual appraisal.

Early Years

There is not currently a nursery provision in school. There is a 30 PAN in YR, and intake in September is staggered over the first week, with the intention being to ensure pupils are in school full time as soon as possible. The intake is made up of 50% of pupils from the local pre-school nursery, and 50% from nurseries in the local area.

EAL

The school is predominantly W/B, with 2% of pupils identifying as non W/B. 4 pupils are registered as EAL.

Deprivation

Halton LA is ranked 27th most deprived nationally, with Hough Green falling in the top 10% most deprived nationally since 2010 on IMD comparison. IDSR shows that whilst the deprivation indicator for the location of the school is in quintile 1 (least deprived), the pupil base is in quintile 4 (more deprived) of all schools. The levels of deprivation are rising steadily in the school, from 17% to 41% in the last five years, which is indicative of the changing demographics in the school. A number of families in the school community have begun accessing the local food bank in the last two years, with the school becoming a referral agent. There has also been a significant rise in the number of families with social care involvement.

Staffing

There has been significant change in staffing in the previous four years, with the HT and AHT being appointed since the last inspection. There have also been significant changes in teaching staff since the last inspection. There are three Early Career Teachers (ECTs) who started in September 2022.

The school’s leadership structure is made up of the HT, an AHT and two key stage leaders who are TLR holders. The senior leaders each have responsibility for a Curriculum Team, and the staff have all been assigned to a team depending on their area of strength. ECTs work alongside the leaders and staff in the curriculum teams, as they build their understanding of the wider role of subject leadership and develop their experience in this area.

Governance

In August 2016, an Interim Executive Board replaced the LGB and was in place during the last inspection. When the school converted to a MAT, a new School Committee (formerly the LGB) was formed, consisting of a Chair appointed by Directors, 2 parent governors appointed by vote, 2 staff governors (one of whom is the HT) and 4 foundation governors. The Scheme of Delegation is available on the Trust website (see link below) and the main responsibilities delegated to the School Committee are school standards, curriculum and the Christian ethos of the school.
