Guardians of the Grounds

Pupil Leadership Group

At St Michael with St Thomas, we acknowledge how fortunate we are to have such wonderful outdoor spaces. Our Guardians of the Grounds have the energy and the vision to ensure that these areas are developed and maintained to ensure that they are a calm and pleasant area for all of our school community.

Our aims this year are to maintain planting that took place last year whilst further adding to this. We will be awaiting the spring display of bulbs that were planted last year and asking for donations of herbaceous plants and shrubs to ensure a magnificent summer display.

We also want to develop the children’s awareness of the wildlife we are lucky to have in our local area and further develop wildlife areas in school for insects, birds and small mammals.

We hope to encourage a wider diversity of insects through the planting of wildflowers and native plants such as Comfrey and Hellebore. This will then encourage a wider diversity of birds and small mammals. We will be seeking help from local experts to help us with this.

Last year, we formed a connection with Dobbies, Speke store and we hope to develop this relationship further this year as they support us in further planting our school borders. It is also hoped that we can make connections with other local businesses who may be able to offer help and support in making our school the very best it can be.
